Entertainment News is Neither

How come we all know Macaulay Culkin did blow but none of us were privy to the knowledge that Blossom is a Neuroscientist?* Our media sucks.

* Mayim Bialik, the actress who played Blossom, got her doctorate in neuroscience at UCLA (she was accepted to Harvard and Yale but wanted to stay close to family). As if that's not enough, she's vegan too. I only learned this stuff because she was the keynote speaker at a fellow yogi's Texas Instruments conference.

  1. Wow, what a kick-ass lady! I never knew.

Active actress, PhD, mother, author of a parenting book, public speaker on several different topics... What a life! Good for you, Mayim!

    1. Ooh, I don't think I knew about the parenting book! Definitely role-model material. Go on with your bad self, Mayim!!!

  2. Mayim's role in The Big Bang Theory was perfect for her; quirky science geek! Inspirational lady for sure. Media sucks, it only ever highlight the bad side of everything, rarely the good.

    1. I should look that one up. I love Big Bang Theory but, sadly, have only seen maybe 4 episodes. I agree completely. Our media is SOOO sensational. I gotta blame the public a little too -- why are we so fixated on hearing bad news? *sigh* Oh well, Mayim's a bright-spot! I loved hearing about her!

  4. You need to see all the Big Bang episodes. They are awesome. Mayim is a reoccurring character and she's one of my favorites.

  5. How do you not know this? You must live in a pop culture bubble because I've heard about this ad nauseum. The "Hollywood" media went on and on about it when Mayim joined the cast of the Big Bang Theory. Did you know Danica Mckellar (Winnie from Wonder Years) is a mathematician?

    1. As much as I try I don't think so, I know about Snookie's baby and Honey boo-boo, so I think the biggies seep into my consciousness through social media. This should have been bigger than that. I hope it was.
